Independent Regulators Group (IRG) and the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) held their ordinary meetings

The virtual 3rd General Assembly of the Independent Regulators Group (IRG) and the 44-th Plenary meetings of the Board of Regulators of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the Management Board of the BEREC Office were held in the period 1-2 October 2020.

The Chairman of the Communications Regulation Commission of Bulgaria Mr Ivan Dimitrov participated in the meetings as well.

Immediately before the meetings a workshop with the heads of the national regulatory authorities was held, during which the results of the work of the BEREC virtual meetings held so far in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic were discussed. On this basis, proposals for the future work of the regulator were discussed given the lessons learned so far.

The Plenary meetings started with the election of the BEREC Chair for 2022 and Vice-Chairs for 2021.

Following a vote, Annemarie Sipkes, Director of the Telecommunications, Transport and Postal Services Department at the Netherlands Authority for Consumer and Markets (ACM), was elected as Chair of BEREC for 2022 and Vice-Chair for 2021.

In addition, Alejandra Iturriaga de Gandini (CNMC, Spain), Jesmond Bugeja (MCA, Malta) and Dr. Rainer Schnepfleitner (AK, Liechtenstein) were also elected as Vice-Chairs for 2021.

During the meeting a number of important documents were considered and approved, some of which were: the updated BEREC Guidelines on intra-EU communications and the BEREC Guidelines on very high capacity networks, as well as the relevant reports with the results of the public consultation on the drafts of these documents.

The first Intra-EU communications benchmark report and the 25-th BEREC International Roaming Benchmark Data Report were also approved, as well as the BEREC report on the implementation of the Open Internet Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2015/2120) and the BEREC Open Internet Guidelines.

In addition, a draft BEREC Work Program for 2021 and draft BEREC Guidelines to assist national regulatory authorities on the consistent application of geographic surveys of network deployments, Phase II, were adopted for public consultation.
