Digital Services Act/DSA

DIGITAL SERVICES ACT

On February 17, 2024, Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 on a Single Market For Digital Services and amending Directive 2000/31/EC (Digital Services Act) came into force.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) regulates online intermediaries and platforms, including online marketplaces, social networks, content sharing platforms, app stores, and travel and accommodation booking platforms.

The aim of the DSA is to create a safer digital environment by countering the spread of illegal content online and by limiting systemic risks, including those related to disinformation, while strengthening the protection of fundamental rights of users and creating conditions for a fair, transparent and open online environment.

If you would like to learn more about how DSA helps you protect your fundamental rights, visit our "For Consumers" page.

All providers of intermediary services in the European Union's single market, whether established in the EU or outside, are required to comply with the rules established by the Digital Services Act.

Detailed information on the obligations of providers of intermediary services can be found here.

Additional general information on the Digital Services Act and how the new rules affect consumers, businesses and online platforms is available on the official website of the European Commission.
